Wattle Bird and Bouquet

Wattle Bird and Bouquet is an original watercolour and ink painting on 300gsm cotton rag paper.

A dark and rich watercolour palette and black ink depicts the beautiful red wattle bird perched on a vase filled with bottlebrush, flowering gums and a banksia flower.

One of my favourite birds they are distinctive with their red cheeks and yellow belly. This imagined still life is built from layers and washes of beautiful colour and finished with black ink linework which looks like stained glass.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
