Western Beauty

Western Beauty depicts the beautiful Western Spinebill perched on a branch between red and green kangaroo paws. The rich colours of the subjects contrast with the light filled blues of the background.

The kangaroo paws make up an art deco inspired repeating pattern further which is echoed in the stained glass style created from the intricate ink linework.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
