Winter Fields

Winter Fields is an acrylic colour block painting of a pair of inquisitive magpies under flowering gums against blocks of colour representing an abstract landscape.

The organic blocks hold an array of neutral colours inspired by mid 20th century palettes which contasts against the black, greys and whites of the birds.

The stylized elements are built up in lightly textured layers and held together by intentionally organic lines to add a sense of softness.

Painted on a wooden board it can be hung as is or framed.

The board measures 40.7x51cm and is 4.5cm deep.

Painted with artists quality acrylics and finished with a satin varnish.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
