Winter Sunrise

Winter Sunrise is an art nouveau style watercolour and ink painting on paper with a curious magpie perched amongst kangaroo paws. A wreath of flowering gums encircles his head with a background of green fields and a warm sunrise in a pale blue sky.

The magpie is a favourite visitor to my garden and appears throughout my artwork, his bold black and white markings lend themselves beautifully to my black ink linework.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
