Wren and Grevillea

Wren and Grevillea is a strong painting with bold black lines and stylized shapes.

The superb fairy wren is depicted oversized and abstracted with a framework of overlaying black lines to create geometric shapes. The bird is flanked between grevillea-filled branches of which the pink contrasts with the main palette of blues and greens.

Every space is filled with flat areas of colour which compliment its neighbours.

Painted on a heavy canvas with archival quality artists acrylics and finished with a satin vanish which deepens the colours and gives a subtle sheen.

Painted with artists quality acrylics and finished with a satin varnish, the edges are painted black and can be hung as-is or have an external frame added.

Nicola is a Perth based multi-award winning artist and owner of The Artists Nook a collaborative artists team providing public and community art projects throughout WA. She has a BA Honours in Fine Art Printmaking from Gray’s School of Art in Scotland.

Her art practice encompasses printmaking and painting with a focus on linocut and watercolour. Nature is a constant throughout her work with native flowers and birds as subjects and motifs.

Art Nouveau and stained glass work have been an enduring inspiration and are echoed throughout her pieces. Juxtaposing flat ink against textural and tonal watercolour washes create a tactility in her still life and botanical pieces.
