Artwork Description

The beautiful Sacred Kingfisher is a medium-sized woodland bird that occurs in mangroves, woodlands, forests, and river valleys in Australia, New Zealand, and other parts of the western Pacific. In New Zealand the species is also known as Kotare!

This original one-off artwork has been painted with high quality Langridge Professional Oil (handmade in Melbourne) on 280gsm cotton duck canvas, finished with two layers of W&N gloss varnish for UV protection & longevity. Displayed in a professional picture framing mat board made by Peterboro Passe-Partout Canada - acid free, high quality, white core. The mount kit includes a mat board backing with clear protective sleeve to be taken to the framer at your leisure. Canvas does not require stretching. Comes with an authenticity certificate for valuation and insurance purposes.

Nicola McLeay is a New Zealand born realism artist & visionary of public exhibition space 'Lighthouse Gallery' located in Port Macquarie NSW.

Her focus is on translating the beauty she sees in the world onto an eclectic range of media surfaces for others to enjoy. Landscapes; wildlife; portraiture; and unique custom made snowboard's are her specialties. Nicola takes pride in using top quality products & pigments to create her masterpieces for strength & longevity. Handmade Langridge Oils' from Melbourne are her medium of choice for such finely detailed & comprehensive brushwork.

Nicola grew up on a large scale high country farm in the mountainous region of the deep south of NZ. A picturesque but very challenging environment from snow blizzards & extreme frosts to spring blossoms & lush green hills. This lifestyle undoubtedly moulded her appreciation for the beauty of nature & continues to influence the art she creates.

Nicola has worked for & with numerous art galleries over her 19 year fine art & graphic design career. Having gained valuable experience dealing with commercial & private art collections, corporate art leasing, home staging, exhibition design & curation.
