Artwork Description

This is a hand painted, original artwork done and signed by me, Olga Jones.
- This seascape is approx 18x24" or 45x60 cm
- Shipped on stretched canvas.
- This beach wall art is a perfect gift for beach lovers that will add coastal vibe to your home.
- All sides are painted. Can be displayed unframed.
- This coastal artwork is a realistic painting of a seaside scene at sunset. The background features a sky rendered in warm yellow and orange hues, with the sun hanging low on the horizon. Below the sky waves gently rolling towards the shore.
The painting shows the shoreline, which is covered with stones and pebbles. These stones are intricately detailed with shadows and highlights in various earthy colors—shades of brown, grey, and blue, with some touches of warmer colors reflecting the sunlight. Golden reflections from the sun shimmering on both the water and the wet stones are giving the painting a strong sense of the warm, golden light.
Overall, the painting captures the tranquil beauty of a coastal landscape bathed in the soft, radiant light of the setting sun.
- I usually start my work with a coat of Gesso primer even on canvasses that are sold primed. Then proceed to create a traditional underpainting as Old Masters did to determine values of color and composition. I only work with oil paints. Each painting has at least 3-4 thin layers. My artwork has almost no texture.
After the painting is finished and cured for 2-4 weeks, then the protective varnish coat goes on, I usually use Dammar varnish that give it a glossy finish. I believe that Dammar makes oil paint appear more lustrous.

Artist Bio

Olga Jones works predominantly with oils on traditional seascapes and coastal landscapes as well as contemporary water paintings. While life has taken her to live in different countries, she has always lived in coastal areas in short proximity to a sea that has become the main theme of her art. She was born in Ukraine, raised in Russia, she moved to US in 2001.
As a child Olga displayed great interest in painting. Her family enrolled her in an art school and she graduated with straight As. Her first job was painting matreshkas (Russian nesting dolls). With turmoil followed the collapse of the Soviet Union life has gotten in the way of the passion. However, even when she was not painting, she always stayed creative, making jewelry and small crafts. She returned to painting in 2018.
She practices traditional technique of painting in thin layers, starting with a tonal underpainting, taking her time with each piece and enjoying her creative process.
Waves, beautiful skies and moody atmosphere are often the subject matter of her work. Every scene: bright tropical skies, stormy seas or coastal dunes is put on canvas in hopes to capture its beauty and feelings they brought her.
