Olga Jones works predominantly with oils on traditional seascapes and coastal landscapes as well as contemporary water paintings. While life has taken her to live in different countries, she has always lived in coastal areas in short proximity to a sea that has become the main theme of her art. She was born in Ukraine, raised in Russia, she moved to US in 2001.
As a child Olga displayed great interest in painting. Her family enrolled her in an art school and she graduated with straight As. Her first job was painting matreshkas (Russian nesting dolls). With turmoil followed the collapse of the Soviet Union life has gotten in the way of the passion. However, even when she was not painting, she always stayed creative, making jewelry and small crafts. She returned to painting in 2018.
She practices traditional technique of painting in thin layers, starting with a tonal underpainting, taking her time with each piece and enjoying her creative process.
Waves, beautiful skies and moody atmosphere are often the subject matter of her work. Every scene: bright tropical skies, stormy seas or coastal dunes is put on canvas in hopes to capture its beauty and feelings they brought her.
