Artwork Description

A walking trail runs along the shores of Encounter Bay towards King's Beach, and the views from the trail are spectacular. This painting is landscape orientation in thickly painted rich oil paint, applied using a palette knife, and it shows the distinctive sea colours of the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, as well as the vivid colours of the rocks and cliffs of the shoreline cliffs. Focal point is the little island in Encounter Bay called 'West Island' and the painting also shows the area of King's Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Fleurieu.

Artist Bio

Patrick Pearson is an award-winning artist painting powerful and immersive abstracts, mainly inspired by tree-bark patterns and wild creatures, and thickly textured landscapes or seascapes in oils, all of which explore the connections between humankind and the natural world. Winner of the Mark Butler Art Prize 2021 and Finalist in the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize 2023, the artist draws inspiration from cave art, traditional African mask design, the Impressionist and Cubist schools, and from the patterns in nature.

In Patrick's abstract paintings, what initially appears abstract frequently suggests hidden forms – birds, extinct or living animals, and spirit or human shapes. The deeper you look, the more you see. His abstracts are typically not available on Bluethumb, but certain of his landscapes and seascapes are. For the abstracts, check out the artist's website at https://patrickjohnpearson.com/ – but if you're looking for his landscapes or seascapes you've arrived at the right place!

Patrick’s love affair with painting the natural world – especially seas and trees – began when he was a child, and his artworks address the crises of old-growth forest loss and the extinction of wild species and reference the beauty of the wilder world around us. His work is held in numerous private collections internationally.
