Behind and just to the east of the small town of Itri in Lazio, Italy, there is this old olive grove that looks abandoned or forgotten but is certainly neither of those things. I visited it when a scattering of wild poppies were in bloom against the dry grass and the rose-tinted rocks that are strewn everywhere.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
Patrick Pearson is an award-winning artist painting powerful and immersive abstracts, mainly inspired by tree-bark patterns and wild creatures, and thickly textured landscapes or seascapes in oils, all of which explore the connections between humankind and the natural world. Winner of the Mark Butler Art Prize 2021 and Finalist in the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize 2023, the artist draws inspiration from cave art, traditional African mask design, the Impressionist and Cubist schools, and from the patterns in nature.
In Patrick's abstract paintings, what initially appears abstract frequently suggests hidden forms โ birds, extinct or living animals, and spirit or human shapes. The deeper you look, the more you see. His abstracts are typically not available on Bluethumb, but certain of his landscapes and seascapes are. For the abstracts, check out the artist's website at https://patrickjohnpearson.com/ โ but if you're looking for his landscapes or seascapes you've arrived at the right place!
Patrickโs love affair with painting the natural world โ especially seas and trees โ began when he was a child, and his artworks address the crises of old-growth forest loss and the extinction of wild species and reference the beauty of the wilder world around us. His work is held in numerous private collections internationally.
