I wanted to capture the energy and connection between two musicians fully absorbed in their performance, rather than simply portray their likenesses. Against a restrained background of blacks and grays, the warm skin tones and golden reflections of the brass instruments become the visual focus. I used expressive Impressionistic brushwork, strong contrasts of light and shadow, and warm and cool colors to create depth and stage atmosphere, while scattered paint marks suggest the rhythm, vibration, and movement of music through the air.
