Artwork Description

SHIPPED IN A TUBE - REQUIRES STRETCHING
The start of a day in the waves... getting down the goat track. In creating this piece, I've melded subtle acrylics, bold graffiti strokes, and delicate ink details into a play of forms and figures. It's both abstract and figuratively suggestive, with a nod to pop art energy and semi-abstract storytelling.

Part of my ‘Sketches Gone Awry’ series, these paintings are a cross between urban pop art, life drawings with a sprinkle of surrealism. I’m fascinated with the conversation between architecture and human development. This is me sitting in cafes watching the world go by, collating sketches from observation then taking that to the canvas and brewing a cocktail community around a theme. I’m preserving the observational element with sketches made from paint markers and fusing them with layers of colour in semi-gloss.

STRETCHING & FRAMING
This painting is acrylic on UNSTRETCHED canvas and comes rolled in a tube, ready for stretching & framing. Offering my work unstretched keeps the costs down for my collectors, making very large scale work more affordable and safer to transport. Working like this also allows the painting to extend around the edges, which means the painting will look great without a decorative frame. For stretching and/or framing, utilise Bluethumb’s 'ADD A HAND-MADE FRAME >' to the right of screen above the 'ADD TO CART' button.

*Please note any in situ images of this artwork is to offer decor, installation and framing examples only and although I try my best to get it right they are never going to be perfectly to scale.

This is me... sitting in cafes watching the world go by, collating sketches from observation then taking that to the canvas and brewing a cocktail community around personal experiences. I’m preserving the observational element and fusing it with intuitive imagery and colour. Ultimately I'm indulging my fascination with human development, relationships and community evolution. I strive to engage with a restricted palette, simplified imagery and a playful approach to common tropes and perceptions.

To give you a brief background, my wife and I currently work as full time Artists in our studios in beautiful Port Douglas. I’ve spent most of my professional career working in television and print media as an editor, camera operator and graphic designer. Much of this has been based out of the U.K., working and travelling with my amazing wife, Cheryl, an insanely talented professional artist of more than 25 years. She opened my eyes to Antoni Tapes, Ben Nicholson, Ralph Steadman, Cy Twombly and John Olsen, the list is endless and the experiences are priceless. I can credit her for encouraging me to take my musings more seriously and stepping out of the shadows - have a squizz at her BT profile Cheryl Harrison MA!

So, I hope you enjoy my paintings. They are meticulously executed and are of a quality that will hold their own in any space, contact me if you have any questions.
