Artwork Description

The title "An Entire Ocean" is a phrase taken from a poem by Nikita Gill entitled "A Girl, An Ocean". The cool blue tones of watercolour and coloured pencil emphasize the sense of calm and focus of this young muse. She represents courage and determination, and the unwavering spirit of youth. I hope she inspires viewers to embrace their own inner strength and confront the unknown with determination and purpose.
This drawing was a finalist in the 2023 Harald and Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize at Royal Queensland Art Society.

Artist Bio

Peta Harvey is a Brisbane-based scientist with a not-so-secret life as an artist. After studying Ceramics at the Australian National University’s School of Art, her creative energy is now focused on developing drawing skills and exploring the freshness and spontaneity of ink and watercolour painting, often in combination with pen or pencil.

Peta exhibits frequently in group shows and has been selected for a variety of curated exhibitions. Most notably, she has been a finalist with her portraits and figurative works in the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize 2022, Lethbridge 20000 Small Scale Art Award (2020-2023) with a Highly Commended award in 2021, Bluethumb Art Prize 2022, and Revival Art & Design Emerging Artist Prize 2023-2024.
