The Local Boozer

This is a reimagining of a Peter Howson painting. He’s my favourite artist and has been since I was about 10. I try to recreate one of his works every so often to get a better understanding of the way he works.

Pete Conroy is an English artist based in Echuca. He focuses his attention on portraits and distortion of the human face and figure. Using traditional techniques mixed with a modern style he paints humans with impossibly stretched facial features and limbs.
Where the shape and structure of his subjects are out of sync with reality he attempts to bring the characters back into the realistic realm with a mix of modern and traditional techniques of oil painting.
