This is one of my latest political paintings. I’ve been paying more attention to the misdeeds of the medical industry since the start of the opiate epidemic in the U.S.A.. Like most of my political work it doesn’t focus on a specific policy/event/scandal. It rather focuses on an action that we all rightly condemn then it is up to the viewer to project their interpretation onto specific’s there after. In ‘Troubled Roads Ahead’ it focuses on the medical industry placing profits first (like the Sackler family did in the U.S.) and being perfectly fine with the consequences that comes with that approach. In this instance they knew they were the bad guys in this scenario, but I worry about the medical professionals that were hoodwinked by their deceptive ways and have to go on living with themselves knowing they harmed the very people they swore to protect.
Pete Conroy is an English artist based in Echuca. He focuses his attention on portraits and distortion of the human face and figure. Using traditional techniques mixed with a modern style he paints humans with impossibly stretched facial features and limbs. Where the shape and structure of his subjects are out of sync with reality he attempts to bring the characters back into the realistic realm with a mix of modern and traditional techniques of oil painting.
