One Fell Swoop

This painting, set within the imaginative space of childhood, explores the relationship between humans, animals & our shared habitats. It also explores the enthralling way that drawing and painting can bring the imagination to life and light to important issues.

Healthy mature woodlands and grasslands are core habitats for an entire community of creatures under threat across northern Australia, including the Gouldian Finch. Intense fires at the wrong time of year destroy breeding and feeding habitats in one fell swoop. More discerning fire management, provided by Indigenous Ranger Programs, is central to protecting these ecosystems and their residents.

Rebecca Hepworth is a Western Australian artist and illustrator working predominantly in drawing, painting and illustration using a variety of methods and materials. Since graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts from Edith Cowan University she has created from her studio in Perth’s North.

Her current work revolves around experimenting and combining different methods, mediums and source imagery to create new scenes, personal meaning and unexpected analogies. She is interested in human nature, relationships, animals and our shared environments. The inspiration for much of Hepworth’s work is found in everyday scenes, children's picture books, fashion magazines, advertising campaigns, and nature.
