I have been a professional, full time painter for over 25 years. I paint mainly land and seascapes in oil on stretched canvas.
I am based in Cygnet in Southern Tasmania around 50 km South of Hobart where I own and operate both a gallery, studio and house.
I came from an artistic family where I grew up in Geelong, Victoria. My mother was a painter right up until into her nineties.
My older brother in WA is a surrealist painter who had a big influence on me continuing with art while I was young.
I am inspired by the subtle tones in both sky and water and enjoy trying to capture it.
That is why I work in oil paint as I like that it dries slowly allowing me time to blend the colours and tones together.
I particularly like the majestic hour at dawn and dusk as this is when you get the most colour and shadow.
I have worked on many commission paintings which are a good challenge as it might be based on a storm or something I'm not usually doing.
For eg; I had to paint the ice sheets, water and icebergs in Antarctica for a scientist who had been there.
I have had a lot of success with my work over the years winning many awards which has only helped to encourage me to keep painting.
I love what I do, paint every day and am always striving to be better.
I hope you enjoy my work and can see it hanging on your wall.
