The day comes and you feel like comparing your skills to a master or admired artist. Personally I find Pedro Campos one of the best realist/photorealist/hyperrealist artists in the world. So I had to take on the C and B jar. If you have Instagram or even go to the Pedro Campos website you'll see a very similar painting. I didn't want to copy Campos, just try and emulate his high level skills.
The Dutch in particular copied works of other artists to lift their skills and it's a practice that still goes on.
The reason I chose this particular jar rather than any of his other paintings is that I thought it would be the most difficult. I won't go into why, but the challenge and the opportunity to lift my painting game was just dangling like the proverbial carrot.
The Cartwright and Butler jars and clip lock cans are still made in Ireland and can be bought with a range of superb goodies from David Jones.
This painting comes framed in black (formerly described as arsenic by the framer) . The painting itself is on sealed panel and the paints used were a combination of the world's best: Williamsburg, Old Holland and Michael Harding.
I hope you enjoy this painting and if you like it, I'd love a like.
