Artwork Description

The background and sides are accented with gold/bronze shimmery paint showing through.

Allow hope to take root in your soul.
Let your hope, not your hurts shape your future.
Only in the darkness can you see the stars.
Be like the tree and let the dead leaves drop.

THE OAK TREE
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr.

A mighty wind blew night and day
It stole the oak tree’s leaves away
Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark

But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around
The weary wind gave up and spoke.
How can you still be standing Oak?

The oak tree said, I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two
Carry every leaf away
Shake my limbs, and make me sway

But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth
You’ll never touch them, for you see
They are the deepest part of me

Until today, I wasn’t sure
Of just how much I could endure
But now I’ve found, with thanks to you
I’m stronger than I ever knew

Artist Bio

“Painting with a purpose”

Thanks for taking the time to view my portfolio. I started painting later in life, unlike a lot of artists I was not really art obsessed as a child preferring to spend my time reading and writing poems. My interest started in my forties but it took until 2016 for me to have the time to really explore and practice regularly. Predominantly I am drawn to paint figures in landscape in an impressionistic style, which over the years has resulted in building a demand from collectors for bespoke art commissions.

I have had a varied career ranging from office work, merchandising, dental receptionist and qualifying as a Diversional Therapist in my forties and working part time in this field for seven years in psychiatric/dementia care. I believe in the therapeutic value of creative pursuits, and that is why I decided to study Diversional Therapy. This varied career, I believe, gave me a lot of avenues to people watch, observe, and listen to their stories and that is why I think I feel the need to put figures in landscape that tell a story to communicate through my art.

My inspiration comes from nature, the beach, and everyday scenes of life around us and I strive to convey the way the light picks up ordinary objects and turns them into extraordinary.

Please consider ‘ following’ me to receive updates on new work. Thanks! 🙂

*******ANNOUNCEMENT*******

Since 2017 - nearly nine years, I have been making regular donations, of 10% of my payments received from my artwork sales, to Shake It Up Australia in memory of my mum who suffered Parkinsons Disease/Lewy Body Dementia.
I have been doing some thinking and it is time for a change.
I have come to a decision now that it is time to honour my dad by donating to Hope Horizons Cancer Wellness Centre, Toowoomba, from here on.
My dad Howard Webb died from oesophageal cancer at the young age of 59. He was the best dad, a former nurse at Baillie Henderson Hospital and 1950 Australian 125 mile Champion cyclist.
Also now that I have been through treatment for breast cancer, and attended Hope Horizons for art therapy, yoga and massage services I have seen the benefits to the community.
