Artwork Description

The couple of currawongs in my yard have had quite a crazy time of it, about a week ago they hiffed what I believe was a Channel-billed cuckoo fledgling from their nest, which would be at least ten meters up a vigorous lemon gum, needless to say, the giant fledgling didn’t survive the fall and when I found it, it was a feast for the flies. Just yesterday a cuckoo was in the gum tree and I watched an epic battle of wills between my two feathered locals whom I have named Kylie and Kosta, another neighbouring currawong and several mynas all ganging up on the cuckoo. This went on for about ten minutes, a small amount of which I caught on film, but unfortunately, I missed filming the point where they all chased the cuckoo off. Bless their little tail feathers, the currawong fledglings have been saved for another day.
