Artwork Description

This one is a beauty. There is just something about the Great Dividing Range that intrigues and fascinates me. I keep returning to it, as a priest seeking redemption. A dog to its vomit. An alco sniffing corks. It’s not just the topography or geology, frequently shrouded in mist or rain. It ain’t the endless captures of the peaks and the flanks, from daguerreotypes to kodachromes. It’s the CONCEPT. Let’s take a flat piece of land; to the West, turn the soil red. Red dirt, and make it hot. Lose the water, with clouds scudding across the mass of the Continent. Dry. Then as you almost get to the East coast, plant and grow some hills, peaks, name some…..mountains. Even though. Turn the soil black and brown. Dump the water. Create the food basins and nourish the land.
This must be the eleventh, twelfth or more time I have revisited it. But this time there’s a new element, fluorescent paint. Zinger. Twang. Shazam. If the painting don’t make your eyeballs pop, the real GDR will !! How lucky are we ……..
