Artwork Description

Original illustration from the novel, THE LEGACY OF BEAUREGARDE by Rosa Fedele. This portrait is of one of the characters in the book, Gordana, with the keys to her tower.

A MICROSCOPIC VERSION OF GORDANA IS HEADED TO THE MOON ON FEBRUARY 14, 2024 AS PART OF THE LUNAR CODEX TIME CAPSULE.

What’s the Lunar Codex?

It’s the brainchild of bestselling author, physicist, composer and film producer Dr Samuel Peralta, who founded this inspired project because he always dreamed of going to the moon.

I’m just one of many artists, writers, musicians and creatives across the globe who have had their pieces reproduced for a time capsule for the Lunar Codex, which will be transported by NASA.

Artworks are on a nickel nanofiche which is the size of an American dime, and are each reproduced three times in red, green and blue channels, so they can be decoded to their original colourings.

Samuel curated the SHELTER exhibition during the 2020 pandemic. The aim was for the exhibition to focus on solace, hope and shelter and "documenting a movement in time". The exhibition then inspired the Lunar Codex project.

"Rosa Fedele's piece 'GORDANA' - depicting a woman holding a ring of keys - spoke to me as a potent symbol of that hope, that one day the doors would again be opened to our lives," he said.

About the book:

The Beauregarde women have lived in the shadow of The Seminary for four generations.
And there is nothing conventional about Marcela, or her family.

When the decadent and obsessive Gordana acquires the iconic Sydney property and
invites a television crew to film the building’s transformation into a magnificent showpiece,
strangers suddenly penetrate Marcela’s world, each with a dark secret of their own.

But Marcela conceals a sinister bond which inextricably ties her to the derelict estate,
holding the power to not only unravel Gordana’s grand designs,
but expose bloodstained treachery, long-buried betrayals and lies.

Artist Bio

Rosa Fedele is an Australian contemporary artist and author based in the beautiful Central Highlands, Victoria.

Unconstrained by conventional expectations, Rosa’s work is genre-defying, often veering into the world of whimsy, her style a blend of figurative, illustrative with a touch of absurdism.

Whimsical, playful and nostalgic, her DREAM MACHINES series is a vibrant and joyful collection of works celebrating vintage and classic cars and Italian scooters, often accompanied by darling doggos and romantic beauties from the silver screen.

“I’m passionate about preserving these wonderful old machines on canvas; reflections and sunshine flashing off seductively curvaceous chrome, the patina of old duco, bumpers wrapped lovingly around steel bodies, the layers of colour and texture and, of course, delicious red rust. I hope that my paintings will take you on a heart-warming and joyous ride in your favourite classic convertible, Italian silk scarf billowing in the breeze and faithful hound by your side.”

Rosa has been a finalist in numerous awards, including the Portia Geach Memorial Art Prize, Almenara Art Prize (Spain), Copes Portrait Prize and Kennedy Prize; her work has been exhibited in NSW Parliament House, Parliament House Canberra as well as galleries and exhibitions in Australia and worldwide, and hangs in the Delta Airways Business Lounge LAX.

Also a novelist, Rosa has published two illustrated suspense novels, both set in Sydney of the past. Sumptuously decadent and wickedly eccentric, she blurs the line between reality and truth, challenging the reader to suspend their disbelief and enjoy the melodrama.

Her debut novel THE RED DOOR interweaves a story with pictures to draw the reader into her own bewitching, and slightly dark-edged, world. The sequel to her modern gothic mystery is THE LEGACY OF BEAUREGARDE.
