Watercolour on paper
Signed on the front.
Layered watercolour painting of one of my signature Kookaburras and native botanicals on thick textured cotton watercolour paper. Painted in calming shades of blue/greys and earth/ochre tones.
My work is very much connected to the place I live and features the backyard birds and plants common in my inner city neighbourhood. Our nature is found amongst the street art, peeping through factory buildings and growing defiantly and disorderly out of the concrete.
My works on paper draw their inspiration from traditional Japanese woodblock printing (Ukiyo - e) and Sumi - e techniques. I enjoy working with Chinese calligraphy brushes, predominantly using expressive line to create my images.
