This original expressive abstract painting combines soft, muted neutral tones with a striking bold central motif in vibrant acid yellow. Featuring multiple layers of paint built up over several sessions, it blends both transparent and opaque pigments. This piece would make a stunning focal point in any contemporary home or office.
My abstract paintings go through many layers and transformations before they’re ready to be shared with the world. My practice has evolved from creating representational works, like still lifes, to a more experimental, process-driven approach where I focus on composition, color, and tapping into unconscious thoughts.
This way of working is both exciting and challenging because there’s no plan or roadmap like there is with painting from a subject. I’ve learned that if I have a preconceived idea of the outcome, it stifles the process and results in lifeless work. Instead, I have to embrace spontaneity, making bold marks and decisions, knowing that some days I’ll produce a "dog's breakfast" that will never see the light of day. But then there are days when everything flows, and I create something that feels right. The magic lies in the struggle and the unknown, much like life itself.
Each piece takes months to complete and usually undergoes several incarnations. This slow process requires patience and stepping away from the work to truly 'see' it.
