I'm really into painting Aussie birds and flowers, with the exception of these Tuis (and the occasional monkey). This painting is one of two Tui paintings completed after a recent trip over the pond to visit my Kiwi rellies. This one takes it's colour inspo from the glorious greens of Lake Tekapo and features some delightful red native pom poms or Pohutukawa as they are correctly known.
I've used gouache in varying consistencies from thick and opaque to a watery wash, painted onto very thick 650gsm bright white textured waterford paper which features a deckled edge on all four sides.
