Artwork Description

All in • Being ‘all in’ on something is scary! It means you leave yourself vulnerable and with vulnerability there is a chance of either great achievement or possible failure… I still find myself awkward and ‘scared’ to tell people out loud when asked that “I am an artist”…I don’t know why, maybe because being an artist means you wear your heart on a sleeve and your emotions come out in your paintings so essentially it feels like people are getting a front row seat to my personal journal. Or maybe because I didn’t go to art school or take the traditional art path to get here so I find myself asking my worthiness of this journey. I’m getting better at being brave with each painting..I am getting better at not questioning and second guessing myself.. Right now, in this place - the feeling I get with this abstract work is the best feeling I’ve ever had from a job. It’s definitely worth being shit scared for everyday.

Canvas measurements 20cm x 20cm. 23cm x 23cm in frame.

Original Artwork painted on a hand stretched canvas by a local framer in Adelaide - South Australia. Floated in a hand made Tasmanian Oak frame. Acrylic with paint pens for fine detailing. Signature on front and back. Wire on back.

Artist Bio

Lena Baumgartner is self-taught and creates large scale abstract expressive works. Looking at Lena's works and you feel everything first - bold colours, soft gesture and the pulse of emotion. She creates thick, texturally brush strokes that you want to reach out and touch. She often pairs striking and contrasting colours together to provoke emotional responses when viewing her artwork from afar. Her practice is mood-led with restless days drawing in the greens and blues while frenetic days are filled with vibrant pinks or even muted neutrals. Sometimes the compositions are clean, other times they're messy and alive. She has actively participated in both solo and group exhibitions, showcasing her talent and unique way of mixing and blending colours on canvas. You can also see her artwork on the South Australian Renmark Gin brand - 23rd Street, Mulberry Gin bottle.
