The week that I started this painting, a lot of things were going through my mind, a family member was very sick and has since passed peacefully and it was evident in the colours I chose for my base layers in this one… I was feeling a bit flat and just not as ‘joyous’ as usual. I wasn’t present or connecting. The other thing that had dawn on me was for the first time ever I am walking into a new year with no idea of direction or ‘big gigs’ lined up ready to work towards for my art and this scares the living shit out of me. It means I have to hustle. I am a person that likes to plan. I like structure. I like having goals to achieve. Jumping in with two feet with no plan in my mind is a risk. This feeling of vulnerability, I am uncomfortable with but I constantly have to remind myself that this is the most joy I have ever felt or received from a ‘J.O.B’ so it’s worth every struggle or late night. Let’s find joy in 2022 together and see where the unknown will take us.
