Artwork Description

This is a portrait of my rescue bird 'Flash'. She's an Australian Scaly-Breasted Lorikeet, and boy does she have a taste for the sweeter things in life!! Honey is her favourite indulgence (nectar of the gods) and sweet fruits like grapes, berries and banana. Her big eyes light up when I fill her aviary with native flowers like Grevilleas, Gum Blossoms and Bottlebrush. I occasionally see her as a sugar addict and I guess it seemed fitting to surround her with a candy-shop theme here.

Artist Bio

From her bold, splashy birds and animals, abstract contemporary Australian florals and beachside seascape abstracts, Shani’s work brings life to the canvas in a gorgeous display of luminous and vivid colour.
Shani grew up in the picturesque tropics of Papua New Guinea, inspired by the flora, fauna and landscapes of her surroundings. Her work shows a keen fascination with birds and nature.
Now living in Queensland Australia, she admires the avian creatures that frequent her own backyard. ‘Birds have become a customary part of my artistic vocabulary’. Her attraction to painting birds draws attention from bird lovers across the globe.

Attention to detail, composition, layers of paint with luminous depth and an eye for colour have made her work highly sort after, being displayed in private collections throughout Europe, the United States, Africa and Australia. Shani’s work has also been included in several interiors publications including Grand Designs Australia, Home Design, Inside Out and The Block Shop.

Shani’s paintings attract renovators, home decorators and designers but she also happily personalises each piece to her clients needs.

She considers her work contemporary, unique, affordable and above all enchanting. Her style is likened to the luminous effects of watercolours but on canvas with many layers of acrylic paint and richly coloured inks.

‘Painting is an immersive practice for me. I can get lost in the layers of colour.’

Shani comes from a background of creative endeavours, completing studies in Visual Arts and Photography, working as an Art Consultant for 2 prestigious art galleries, running an art supplies business selling art supplies to beginner and professional artists and she is also a qualified Picture Framer.
