Hi I am Sierra Roberts, twenty seven from Wanaka, New Zealand, currently residing in Byron Bay
I have always intuitively been drawn to indigenous faces and have aimed to capture their regal beauty. Inspired by the pages of National Geographic I always felt in awe of how diverse and colourful our incredible world is. I feel our happiness and that of the Earths is not seperate. As we lose our natural world, we lose our cultural identities. We lose our connection with others, we lose knowledge and ultimately, we lose happiness.
From exploring the world myself I have found every human from every culture has their own unique story. How they adorn themselves, whether it’s with clothing, face paint or jewelry this practice creates their identity of themselves and shares their story. But it isn’t the full story. The full story is felt, connected with. You understand it more through feeling than word. This is what I strive to achieve through my use of paint.
The faces of the world and the stories that live through their eyes is the essence of my artistic practice. The more I work on portraits the more I understand that nothing is more powerful than the human connection, the human ‘story’. Each individual person radiates their own light, a statement within themselves and that from learning and celebrating one another we can create a happier Earth.
Thanks!
Sierra
