This piece belongs to the ‘neon_ghetto_flux’ collection of works. Titled 'beyond existence', it's from a trilogy which delves into the present and future involvement of technology on humanity and society. This tension is apparent, as noted in the titles of the artwork.

The high-tech and gleaming colours, ‘the neon flux’ is heavily present across the three works, but not over shadowing the ‘ghetto’ of decay and old, which Simon merges with cleverness. This provides an atmosphere of uncertainty. The imagery intends to provoke emotion; making it the essential indicator of someone’s ‘humanity’.

Melbourne-based artist Simon Lovell is a graphic designer with 20 years of experience, having collaborated with both local and international clients. Leveraging his expertise in digital design and influenced by his time spent in Japan, Simon creates vivid imagery inspired by Japanese experiences, ukiyo-e (woodblock prints), and the landscape of his subconscious.

As a contemporary artist, Simon combines digital technology with his traditional fine art education. This mixed-media approach, blending ‘digital & fine art,’ pushes artistic boundaries, resulting in works that are intensely vibrant and bright, or contemplative and subdued. Simon’s creations merge hand-drawn illustrations and linocuts with digital technology and experiences, appealing to a discerning art collector audience and enhancing the authenticity and value of his work.

Recently, Simon was honored with the 2023 Aesop Value Recognition Award in Creativity.
