This piece belongs to the ‘japan’ collection of works. A collection with a pronounced Japanese influence and tends to stay subdue in nature but strong in spirit. Colour isn't the overall intention here, it's appearance is only to support the greater message and meaning. The artist highlights a mix of traditional and modern outputs to create these works.
'Red Sun' provides an atmosphere of strength and power. It focuses on dark colours and overlays of photography and lino-prints (unreleased by the artist) mixed with digital approaches to elevate the overall feeling. The artist presents new approaches and fresh ideas. This merging approach has added a new perspective. The viewer has more to reflect on.
The transparent red circle is the 'power-punch'. It's the single element that elevates this work. As simple as it is, it has been cleverly positioned and balanced – still allowing the background to be seen. To top it all off, the artist has added his trademark drips. Placed superbly to provide another layer of thought.
"I'm pretty sure this is the first piece I created in the 'japan' series. I wanted the audience not to be mistaken by my influences. I'm sure I achieved this."
