Departure

With this Mughal Indian art inspired painting titled ‘DEPARTURE’ my vision was to capture an old-world aesthetic, letting go of realistic proportions and lighting. I envisioned a mother comforting her son as he leaves for far away lands, while others who see this painting imagine this to be a lovers' goodbye! The interpretation of this scene is your perception of the feeling it conveys to you and how it manifests in your imagination.

To enhance and add a little bit of extra interest I have used metallic paints such as copper, antique gold, yellow gold, as well as glitter and pearl paints. While the process of painting itself is enjoyable and satisfying, I look forward to hearing how others perceive my artwork and the story they imagine.

The sides of the canvas have been painted so it can be hung unframed or if you prefer you can frame it according to your choice after purchase. This original acrylic painting is sealed with a low gloss varnish and is ready to hang.

I am an Indian born, Melbourne based artist. Art was a passion of mine in my teens and twenties and I wanted to pursue it as a career, but back in those days the chances of making it as an artist and earning a living through it were bleak and my parents encouraged me to get a proper degree that would get me a decent job :) So, after a career, marriage, kids, migrating to a new country and then later a job redundancy, 35 or so years later, I now find myself free to pursue my passion and creativity again!

In my youth I worked with water colours, oils and pencils, but now I mostly use acrylic and watercolours. Being a self taught artist with no formal training, my natural style leans towards realism and I create each piece with great care, paying careful attention to every detail. I also love to dabble in mixed media, fabric collage and pottery.
