Artwork Description

Geraniums have long been a cherished feature of Australian gardens, admired for their resilience, generous flowering, and enduring ability to brighten everyday spaces. For many, they evoke memories of family homes, cottage gardens, and the simple pleasure of freshly picked blooms arranged in a vase.

This painting celebrates the joyful abundance of geraniums, exploring the rich vibrancy of the reds alongside the delicate nuances of the pinks. Rather than focusing on botanical detail, I have sought to capture their energy, movement, and luminous colour.

Painted in a loose Impressionist style, with subtle references to Monet’s celebrated garden paintings, the work features expressive brushwork, layered colour, and spontaneous drips and splashes that contribute to its vitality and contemporary character.

The painting extends around the edges of the slimline canvas, allowing it to be displayed without framing, although it would also be beautifully complemented by a natural oak frame. Equally suited to an entrance, living area, or bedroom, this work brings warmth, freshness, and a timeless sense of optimism to any interior.

Artist Bio

My work is an expression of my deep connection to nature, drawn from the subtle beauty I encounter in my daily walks through the Australian landscape. The fleeting yet profound moments I find in local plants, flowers, and gardens are at the heart of my practice. I am inspired by the delicate, often overlooked details that, when observed closely, reveal the resilience and vibrancy of life. These small but significant finds serve as the foundation for my abstract floral and landscape paintings.

In my art, I aim to celebrate the essence of nature—not through realistic depictions, but through bold, abstract forms that elevate the quiet energy of plants and gardens. My work reflects my reverence for nature’s intricate beauty, and my desire to bring attention to the often-hidden wonders of the natural world. Each painting is an exploration of how the landscape speaks to me: it could be the subtle play of light on a petal, the curve of a leaf, or the rhythm of growth that occurs just beneath the surface.

My practice is not only about capturing what I see, but also about fostering a dialogue between the internal and external landscapes—the emotional response I feel as I encounter these living forms, and the way nature’s rhythms mirror our own human experience. Through color, texture, and abstraction, I seek to convey the layers of meaning and connection I feel with the natural world, offering viewers a space to pause and reflect on the beauty that surrounds us.

Ultimately, my work is a tribute to the natural world, an attempt to elevate the often unnoticed moments in our everyday lives, and an invitation for others to see and appreciate the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary.
