A Balanced Routine by Sue Hill
Sue was inspired to paint this acrylic African landscape having followed the route of a group of cyclists as they travelled in Central Africa on social media. The cyclists’ recent photographs of places, people and animals as they passed through the country reminded her of her childhood upbringing in Central Africa and the places where she grew up. Her father worked on the mines in Zambia and Sue’s own family was posted to different locations around this area, including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. She still misses Africa.
In this landscape of African women walking along a dusty road, Sue has painted their colourful dress and their poise as they carry their wares. In the background are cyclists, a village of mud huts and other figures. The land s dry and dusty.
She had painted the edges black. it is sealed with satin varnish and it is wired ready to hang. It is signed on the back.

Artist Bio
Sue was brought up in Central Africa and spent her formative years moving from one small mining town to another with her family. Both parents were creative and her mother was a botanical artist. Sue was encouraged to amuse herself with few material possessions. She developed a deep love of nature and the surrounding bush with its diversity of flora and fauna.
Many years later Sue emigrated to Perth with her young family and as soon as her children were established at primary school, she began to attend part time art classes at TAFE and the Claremont College of Art.
A decade later and following another shift, this time to Adelaide, she became a volunteer art guide at the South Australia Art Gallery, which reinforced her love of history and art.
In the past decade, and following a further move to Brisbane, Sue has intermittedly attended short courses in various mediums of art and has attended Don Waters weekly demonstration sessions at Beenleigh.
Sue mainly works in acrylics but dabbles in oils and mixed media. She is Brisbane-based and a member of RQAS. Her paintings are based in reality but she likes to look for the humour in everyday life.
