Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

This is an original oil painting of the little harbour at John o’Groats, Scotland. John o’Groats is a wind-swept town on the north-eastern tip of Great Britain, which attracts a lot of tourists. This town was settled in 1489 by Dutchman Jan de Groot. He ran the ferry from the Scottish mainland to Orkney. Apparently he charged one ‘groat’ for the use of the ferry.
When in Scotland on holiday, we drove up to see the town out of curiosity. Apart from the charming little harbour it is sparsely populated and rather a dismal place. I was attracted to the two bright boats against the backdrop of colourful buildings, which is the scene I have painted.
The sides of the painting are 4 cm deep and painted in blue black.
The painting has my initials in the right hand corner and is also signed in full at the back of the painting.
There are D rings and a wire for hanging
