I have a thing about coloured birds, red ones especially. The Firebird is a mythic bird, a portent of good fortune if treated well. These ones seem to have emerged from a magical bowl

In Australia, we are so lucky to have many breathtaking coloured birds - and it's one of the things I love about living here. I could paint them, but I am not a realistic painter - I am surrealist, and so I create whimsical images about things that intrigue me.

This little painting is a variation of a much bigger work that I sold a few years ago. The edges are gesso white, and I have included a styled shot of what it would look like framed.
