Artwork Description

The painting depicts a muted view of Adelaide, with overlapping Gumtrees in the foreground. Soft greens and purples that harmonise together but with one 'reddish' tree that is not like the rest.
The exploration behind this piece was to highlight a subject that we may all take for granted, walk past every day. And to show it in a new light, using a more vibrant, unexpected colour palette to convey the trees uniqueness and strength.

Middle Sister explores the connection between trees and humans and was inspired by places that I explored around my local area during the first wave of Covid. It made me have a new appreciation for the land and nature, realising how lucky we are to have so much beauty on our doorstep.
This particular location was just off The Old Bullock Track near Mt Osmond lookout. I was drawn to this scene, as there were many different types of gumtrees close together, overlapping and competing to be taller than the other.
The trees in this piece actually represent people in my life, their limbs clinging to one another. I am the red tree, The Middle Sister.
