Valhalla:
A Memento Mori featuring the accoutrements of the character the Mighty Thor also known as Dr
Jane Foster from the Marvel movie Love and Thunder and it deals with accepting death, dignity regarding end-of-life decisions and the celebration and legacy of that life. The helm in the piece is a hand-made prop made by Tiffany Dean and deliberately shows signs of the damage taken in Jane's final battle- to win the battle was to lose to the cancer and thus it becomes a symbol of empowerment and agency. So the painting raises a glass, lights a candle and sets a table of plenty not to fight the sadness of loss, but to wrap around it, to commemorate a life well lived and let it become its own saga.
Painted on specially prepared canvas the work is presented in a complementary gold floating timber frame.
