The Abduction of Europa

The Abduction of Europa, watercolour polyptych 6 x 76 x 56 cm ( overall dimension 152 x 168 cm ). Title was borrowed from Rembrandt's painting from 1632, one of his rare mythological subject paintings. Many other painters used the same subject, Titian, Veronese, Gauguin...No bull in my painting!
Painted on Italian Fabriano Artistico all cotton 640 grams paper. Each paper was mounted ( using archival permanent glue ) on stretched custom made frames, using heavy duty canvas, slightly bigger than paper. Frames are attached together at the back with metal plates forming one sturdy framed artwork.
Heavy duty D rings are attached and frame is ready to hang. For easy transport painting detaches into two pieces ( 3 connected panels each ) . They fit in a small car when seats are folded. Two halves are than put together before hanging.
I use only Fabriano papers when I paint / exhibit in Europe. Luckily, it became available in Australia too.

Born in Croatia in 1958, Tony Belobrajdic is a Sydney based figurative artist. He started exhibiting in the late seventies and had his first solo show in 1983 in Croatia. Tony moved to New York in 1987 where he continued his art practice. He exhibits both in Sydney and Europe regularly. Acrylics, watercolours and oils have been the mediums of choice. Etchings is the latest medium being explored and studied with a great passion.
His style could be described as contemporary impressionism, mostly portraits and figures.
Tony's artwork demonstrates distinct freedom using spontaneous brushstrokes and vivid colours. He combines layered figuration of human forms put in abstract situations.
