‘...an unthinkable triumph: women from the lowest (Indian) caste – those who are barred from drinking from the same water tap as others – now interact with the households they service and, for now, have beaten out powerful competitors for the right to collect the city's refuse. They now clean the city with a sense of dignity and purpose – a feat that goes beyond what the economics of the low-cost model could ever have predicted.’ Source: The Guardian

Artist Bio

🌿Born Sydney, Australia, Tracey Knowland is an autodidact artist working between a farm-based studio in the Byron Bay hinterland and a coastal property bordering the UNESCO World Heritage coastline at Iluka. With a background in horticulture, Tracey is acutely aware of the fragile balance and beauty of the natural world. Working in photography or oil or acrylic paint on canvas or linen, Tracey draws influence from the foliage, light, patterns and textures of nature. Trace was selected as artist in residence (grant recipient) Chateau Orquevaux, Champage, France, 2017, where one of her paintings was acquired for the Chateau's private collection and she was commissioned to paint historic landmark Le Castel d'Orquevaux. In August 2017 Trace received an Award of Special Merit for two of her works from over 700 entries in the Time, Space, Light Gallery (Fine Art America) Botanical Competition. In December, 2017 Trace was a finalist in the Australian national 30 x30 Art Piece Art Prize. Trace is represented in the USA by Atkinson Collection Gallery, Chicago, USA. Traceys print designs for Designer Boys are popular with interior design trade in Australia and beyond.
Recently Tracey (Trace) has expanded her creative works to sculpture in wood and stone .🌿
