Our waste has become a part of nature now, it is impossible to avoid it. But I feel 'Trash Nest' does still hold a fragment of hope; the possum looking up at us, pleading.
Other paintings such as 'We Find A Way Into Everything', 'Discarded' and 'What's Left?' don't have this same sense of hope...
The reality most people live in is based on consumerism, exploitation and the ultimate destruction of the very planet that sustains us. In order to secure a place for future generations (all species alike) it is vital that we regain greater awareness of our planet and thus take better responsibility of it. Our material lifestyles has had huge consequences; our waste seeps into every part of the environment. The oceans, rivers, forests, humanity has left its mark everywhere.
The possum in this painting is a sugar glider, native to Australia.
