A limited edition print of an original painting 'Blue Waratah’ by Sydney-based artist, Vickie Liu. The botanical artwork was inspired by the Australian native waratah and the anticipation of summer.
“I painted this piece from a still life setup with flowers purchased from my local flower market in Sydney. I was quite excited to find waratahs available at the flower market. It was fascinating to watch the flower open up and change shape over the days I was painting it in my studio.
I loved playing around in my sketchbook to find the perfect composition before committing to a final design on canvas. I really wanted to show off the detailed waratah buds set against the contrasting blue, green and purple colours in the gum leaves. The arrival of new flower species at the market really got me thinking about summer which was just around the corner. I decided to capture this summer vibe with the blue background which reminds me of Sydney’s summer skies.”
