I had Dulux sample pots leftover from renovating and the rich, bright combo of Temptress's burnt orange sang when alongside crimson reds and the soft grey-green of Dulux Sea Radish. Together they reminded me of a recent trip to Japan when the autumn colour were just starting to show on the tips in the deep forest. We went walking on a misty morning with very light rain, which settled in the base of a narrow gully from which a shallow creek ever-so-gently and quietly emerged into view.

Artist Bio
Welcome. From my studio in Canberra, Australia I create semi-abstract paintings that find peace and beauty in the cosy mess that is the forest understorey. It feels like home to me. I’d love to personally talk you through my favourite bits of each artwork and where it comes from. Please use this site as a studio-on-the-web to explore. Zoom in, take your time, enjoy, and please feel welcome to contact me.
My gentle works invite viewers to peer in, the same way as when someone speaks softly you lean in and become still to listen. Most of my inspiration comes from Canberra's regional woodlands and forests, and their seasonal changes. I love rich, soulful, earthy colour - and the contrast of Australia's brown neutrals with its vibrant wildflowers and birds. I love semi abstract landscapes with organic forms and lost-and-found edges that speak of the forest’s timelessness and oneness - and impressionist flecks of colour that skip across the canvas as sunlight across leaf, web or wing.
As a nature lover, I prefer sustainable materials. This is why many paintings are on unstretched linen, so there’s no plastic bubblewrap needed for shipping when you buy online. Your artwork arrives in an easy-to-handle, lightweight mailing tube. You will find prices for unstretched works are lower to allow for stretching costs.
In 25+ years of practice I have exhibited in galleries in ACT, NSW and Tasmania plus several solo and partner exhibitions. You may have known me as Victoria Collins. I have recently moved to my married name.
