In a perfect balance of warm and cool, I became completely immersed in this pocket of forest. The absence of sky was very grounded and time fell away leaving only the lovely embrace of a habitat that provided everything needed to the creatures here.

This piece is richly layered with delicate, organic mark making using a variety of tools and subtle nuances of colour to build the layers of forest understorey. The blue-ochre palette explored that balance of warmth and freshness in the forest, softened and enriched with undertones of aubergine and dusky mauve which were new to this series. I found the bright blue thrilling against the ochre tones.
