Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
There's a lot in this piece to interest the eye over and over, or long serene gazing. I wanted to build layers of colour and texture to emulate the dense, scrubby bush in which this kangaroo was so at home. Despite the depth and detail, the simple composition and earthy tones sit well among all manner of decor colours... Kayaking on a silent Lake Moondara in far north Qld, this fantastic kangaroo slid into view, shading himself along a secluded bank. This wiry, tough, ochre-coloured fellow - clearly feeling the heat - was completely of his land and we had the privilege to witness him at his own private reverie. I wanted to capture how he blended into his landscape, his form slowly emerging for the patient eye. The piece is on deep edge stretched canvas, with Burnt Umber colour taken right round for a finished look to hang straight away. Ships unframed.
