Profoundly moved by a kayak trek up the Tumut River, I wanted to describe the curious contrast of a fast river full of movement, that was at the same time mesmerising and peaceful. On my kayak, I was faced daily with the unerring force of the swift current after weeks of summer rains plus the release of water from the Snowy Hydro. The eddies and white water, submerged branches and high water created a sensation of mass and energy that I wanted to re-live.
