Layers of organic texture and tropical colours, the more you look the more you see - just like days spent wandering the rock pools on an island holiday.
On our first visit to Fiji my partner and I spent a whole morning scouring the vast low-tide rock pools, marveling at the colours in the fish, coral and seaweeds, and all the weird little creatures in between. This painting is done from memory, honouring my impressions of that glorious morning and the imprint it left in my mind.
Layer upon layer of paint and texture in this piece revive that impression of an immense amount of life, with creatures inside seaweed inside rock crevasses inside little pools inside a vast seascape. Earthy brown and latte tones balance the vibrant turquoise and teal, and soft mauves. Finished with semi gloss varnish for shine and protection.
