Tommy Shelby by Wendy Sherwell refers to the lead character in a TV show, Peaky Blinders. A fantastic series which left a big impression on me. This painting depicts Tommy Shelby walking through the Liverpool docks on a misty, smokey morning going about his business. He is head of the gang called Peaky Blinders, so called due to having razor blades embedded in the rim of their caps and sewn into the lapels of their jackets.
This painting endeavours to recreate the violence, poverty and atmosphere of the 1930s in the North of England.
