Dusky Clouds span the top of the canvas down to the distant landscape with the sun setting on the right reflecting warmth into the clouds and the horizon below. The length of sand spans from right across the canvas to meet the ocean shore, the gentle waves cover the left hand side of the canvas the whitewash, tinged with colour from the setting sun.
The foreground is an elevated headland filled with wild grasses and a cluster of flannel flowers.

A pale low contrast but high key drawing. Interior night lit. Long soft graphite horizontal stripes created by using a graphite stick, and an eraser, form the background for this drawing. They are the calm element that also suggest slatted blinds illuminated by the interior electric lighting. They carry the heavy scratchy angular marks of heavier, thinner graphite scribbles. These marks suggest to me, the flitting movements of the insects and their chaotic irregular scratchy sounds.
