Artist Statement
Through my own observations and mark making, I wish to capture the essence of the past, by
investigating and recording the traces left behind on the surface and the hidden space. I have spent many years, drawing, painting and photographing cities worldwide, alleyways, buildings, drain-holes,
garbage dumps, streets, architecture and doorways. By taking the forgotten marks and
scratches from surface's rarely observed, I want to transform them, raising them to a higher
plateau of awareness by making them more relevant in my work. I use these marks and
scratches as history’s D.N.A.

About the materials.
This painting has been created on strong, rigid panel.
My panels are coated with acid-free acrylic gesso.
The artwork is unframed and has no hanging hardware.
This makes it ideal for custom framing to your liking.
Your local framer will be able to create a custom frame for your artwork.
Painting on a rigid wooden board allows me, to build up rich layers of, marks, text and coloured glazes, without the surface collapsing, as when using a stretched canvas .

Capturing the essence of past eras in my paintings. In this piece, a mysterious woman sits wrapped in a dressing gown, her face shrouded in mystery. To enhance a profound sense of antiquity and the passage of time, I use layers of transparent oil glazes to give a deep, aged feeling to the artwork. I want viewers to feel like they're looking at a portrait that was painted centuries ago,. The dark, rich tones add to the overall atmosphere, transporting us to a different time and place. It's like stepping into a time capsule through my artLayers ... worn, torn, ripped, creased, bent, scraped, sanded, stapled, glued, painted, stained and inked. Each scrap of vintage paper just as precious and and poignant as the other. In making this piece, I immersed myself in a process of creative abandonment, combining splashes of red with the mysterious shadows of black ink. I used acrylic paint and ink, letting each stain tell a part of a story veiled beneath the surface, reminiscent of vintage aesthetics.

Sitting beside the Seine river in Asnieres, Paris, France. The creation of order out of chaos and the eventual return to randomness.
The antique collage elements, create a textural play with ink blots and stains that tell a story. It's an abstract embrace of vintage aesthetics that speaks of time’s touch on memories. A contemplative piece that invites the viewer to explore the layers of emotion and history threaded within its fibers.
